I work with a unique blend of traditional psychotherapy and a felt sense approach. My specialty is in the renegotiation and the resolution of overwhelming traumatic experience that happened “too fast, too much, too soon”. With the somatic experiencing method I guide my clients into self-regulating the emotions that have become unmanageable and the nervous system that has been shocked. I am ready to explore how difficult events manifest in the body and I am committed to restore optimal functioning with my clients. I am eager to work with the full spectrum of life issues that occur at all ages.

Entering therapy is a courageous step on the path of transformation, and self improvement. You are a unique individual and deserve therapy uniquely tailored to your needs, and your vision of health. I view the therapy path as a collaborative process where together we determine your goals and needs. I understand what it’s like to work with building blocks, the small manageable steps that form a larger goal. Informed by my background in body-oriented (non-touch) therapy, and mindfulness practice, I will help you engage with your own body’s wisdom and inner knowing. I work with a wide range of individuals and issues, including past trauma affecting the present, eating disorders, relationship and dating issues, and navigating through life transition.

I am deeply committed to the healing power of psychotherapy. In therapy, people who suffer in isolation can learn to form nourishing relationships, and those who feel estranged from their authentic self can shift to a more integrated sense of well being. My style is a client-centered, humanistic and cognitive approach integrating the body and the mind. I love working with people around the general issues they struggle with, as well as more complex and longstanding challenges. Asking for help with these challenges takes courage and I have immense respect for those who do.

At times each of us faces real challenges and life questions. I believe that developing self-knowledge and self-acceptance enables us to mindfully make choices that reflect what we truly want. I am committed to creating a safe space for you to express and explore all aspects of yourself, from your deepest hurts to your highest hopes. I work from an existential-humanistic framework and bring compassion, insight, humor, and a deep respect for each individual's unique journey to my work with adults, couples, and co-workers.

The process of life's unfolding path can sometimes be scary and confusing, but you don't have to walk that path alone. Allow me to join you on that path, and I can help to ground you in your experiences while we explore the twists and turns which can make life so exciting. I am influenced by humanistic, transpersonal and psychodynamic theories of psychology in my practice; and I use tools from Cognitive Behavioral, Gestalt and Hakomi therapies. I have experience working with anxiety, depression and grief, as well as relationship, spiritual, cross-cultural, sexuality and LGBTQ issues.

I believe that we all contain the seeds of our own solutions, and work in a highly empathic, intuitive way to help you bring your seeds to fruition. I also believe strongly that the mind and body are intensely related. Consequently, I help clients to notice their somatic as well as their cognitive experience. In my opinion, this combination of mind-body work can allow you to reach your potential in ways otherwise not possible. I have a wide variety of experience, and my areas of expertise and focus include: alternative lifestyles / sexual orientations, transgender concerns, substance abuse, severe mental illness, and couples work.

I specialize in supporting couples and families to have fulfilling connections. Relationships can be a real challenge, but fortunately couples counseling can bring change and relief to old dynamics. If you are struggling with your partner and wish that you could find a way to feel like a team again, I believe I can help. I have a deep love for supporting couples to find satisfaction. As a husband and father, I know how hard it can be, and how to bring connection and joy to your relationship and family.

I bring a warm, gentle, and deeply respectful approach to the therapy process, in relation to both what you want, and what is stopping you from getting what you want. ALL of you is welcome and honored here. I enjoy working with teens, adults, and couples struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, self-awareness and acceptance, spiritual emergence, and relationship issues. I tend to work relationally and with what's happening 'here and now'. If you've ever wondered, "Who am I, really?" I think we'd be a great fit!

In my work as a psychotherapist, I begin from a place of complete acceptance and then explore a client's background and story, using mindfulness, art, guided meditation, and body-based approaches. Life transitions, trauma, grief, breaking destructive patterns, relationship issues and helping someone find their voice are my focal areas. Prior to working at New Perspectives, I was a grief counselor for a hospice in San Francisco and continue to counsel children in the San Francisco schools.
